TMT Awarded Widening the Circle of Concern Award

In early 2020, the UUA Commission on Institutional Change published a report on systemic and institutional racism and oppression within Unitarian Universalism entitled Widening the Circle of Concern. The full report is available electronically here. In response to the numerous recommendations made in the report, the District Boards within the Pacific West Region of the UUA established an award to recognize congregations that were living out the vision of the report. The award includes a $2000 prize. The criteria were that the congregation or organization had taken significant action based on the recommendations in the report or had made efforts which foster diversity, equity and inclusion. This includes demonstration of innovative and replicable work that presented a challenge to the congregations and organizations that applied. Five congregations and organizations submitted applications, each of which is doing commendable work deserving support.

We are honored to announce that The Mountain Top has been selected as the first recipient of this award. We are grateful for the PWR’s recognition of the work we are doing to create a world where BIPOC members in our UU communities are welcomed and celebrated as fully whole human beings. This award will be used to further our mission to create energy around and inspire BIPOC people to build connections and begin the conversations to create and hold empowering and affirming space.

If you haven’t done so already, follow our Facebook Page to keep up to date on current events as we continue to grow our ministry and our reach, and don’t forget to share it with other UU Black, Indigenous, People of Color and mixed-race/multiracial folx as well!
